Why 10 Minutes in Nature Can Change Your Life – Our Story & Simple Rituals

Have you ever wondered how just 10 minutes in nature can change the way you feel?

In a world of constant notifications, deadlines and digital noise, many of us feel overwhelmed, tired and mentally drained. But science shows that even 10 minutes in nature a day can reduce stress, improve focus and boost creativity. You don’t need a mountain expedition or a week-long retreat — sometimes a short walk, a few deep breaths of fresh air, or simply sitting under a tree is enough to reset your mind.

For us, discovering the benefits of spending time outdoors wasn’t just a wellness trend — it became a turning point. What started as a simple attempt to escape city stress slowly transformed into a completely new way of living.

This is our story — and how small moments in nature helped us reconnect, slow down and build Two Steps From Nature.

Our story: From city stress to nature freedom

We were like many of you: always reachable, digitally connected and constantly on the go – yet inwardly often tired, stressed, and a little trapped in the rhythm of the 9-to-5 life. Back then, we were still living in Hamburg, Germany.

Back in Hamburg, Germany - the chapter before everything changed

But at some point, we realized that we knew something had to change and we took the leap: moving to beautiful Switzerland.

Simply stepping out of our comfort zone and seeing something new in this world. Feeling disconnected from nature, we swapped the city for a more village-like environment, giving ourselves the chance to spend more time outdoors.

What happened next felt like a little miracle: we had completely underestimated the power of nature.

A short walk in the forest, a few conscious breaths or just feeling the wind on our skin – and suddenly, we felt lighter, clearer, more alive.

These moments made us realize that life is more than deadlines, meetings and endless to-do lists.

We wanted even more freedom from the daily grind – to work location-independently and explore more of this beautiful Earth. Away from rigid routines, toward spontaneous adventures, new places, and small rituals in nature – that was the beginning of our vision.

And so Two Steps From Nature was born: our passion project to bring little moments in nature into everyday life – for you and for us.

But also a way to experience the world without being tied to a desk. We want to show you that freedom, relaxation, and inspiration are often just a few steps from your door – or a few flights away 😂

Why just 10 Minutes can make a difference

Nature has an incredible impact on both body and mind. Research shows that even short periods outdoors can:

  • Lower stress hormones, helping you feel calmer and more relaxed
  • Improve focus and concentration, making it easier to tackle daily tasks
  • Boost creativity, giving your mind space to generate new ideas

The best part? You don’t need long hikes or expensive trips.

Even brief moments – a short walk in the park, a few minutes sitting under a tree or simply feeling the breeze on your skin – are enough to recharge your energy and reset your mind.

3 simple nature exercises to reduce stress naturally

Here are three simple practices you can try right now – no matter where you are:

1. Mindful breathing in nature:

Step outside and find a spot that feels good – a bench, a tree stump, or any place where you can relax. Close your eyes, take five slow, deep breaths, and really notice the fresh air filling your lungs. Feel how your body softens, how your mind begins to quiet down, and let yourself fully arrive in this moment.

2. Touch the outdoors:

Feel the texture of a leaf, the roughness of a tree trunk or the smoothness of a stone. Connect physically with nature.

3. Mini reflection:

Take a few minutes to write 3–5 sentences about what feels good right now or something you’re grateful for today.

These 10 minutes are all it takes to feel a shift in your mood, clarity and energy.

Our tip for you
